PURPL 21 Questions – Victim: Jared Evan
Posted on 17. Jan, 2010 by JD in Music Videos, Random Awesomeness
We are back with more interesting and awkward questions and this time we caught up with New York singer/songwriter, producer, rapper Jared Evan of Zone 4/Interscope.
WELOCOME TO PURPL 21 QUESTIONS WITH:
JARED EVAN
1. Hey, what’s up? How’s life?
Jared: Hey, I’m good dude! Life is not bad right now, I don’t think I have too much to complain about.
2. Who are you in 6 words?
Jared: Musical, Creative, Witty, Emotive, Funny, Unpredictable
3. Okay… Purpl or Purple?
Jared: I would have to say Purple.
4.Wroooong Answer haha, Just playing,Anyway.. Jared Evan, is that your real name?
Jared: A lot of people ask me that actually. Jared Evan is my first and middle name. I left my last name out simply because the rhythm of my first and middle name just flow smoother in my opinion!
5. You’re not into having a catchy artist name?
Jared: Well, I think that when you’re a musician it’s cooler to use your real name to show people that you’re not afraid to be who you are and the person you have always been. Bob Dylan is a good example of this and actually did the same thing that I did. Bob dropped his last name and went with his first and middle. I was always more fascinated with stuff like that I guess.
6. Mac or PC
Jared: Man, it’s crazy because growing up I was pretty much raised on PC computers like most people my age, but when I really started executing on my creativity there was no better outlet for me than a Mac and since then I kind of refuse to use a PC!
7. Cool, how was 2009 for you as an artist?
Jared: Man, 2009 was dope! I really found myself musically, got signed, had the chance to meet some of the industries biggest veterans and most importantly I began to reach a real audience with my music, which has always been my dream.
8. What can we expect from Jared Evan in 2010?
Jared: 2009 was when all the pieces came together and things really happened for me, but 2010 is hopefully when people will really get a chance to hear what I have been working on. You can expect brand new amazing music from myself, a re-release extended version of my mixtape, my debut album as well as some crazy visuals from myself and my homie Rik Cordero. Man, 2010 should be incredible!
9. What do you think about the European music market, anything for you?
Jared: Yeah most definitely! Europe is such an important scene/outlet for any and every artist. I’ve always felt that some of the greatest acts and musicians have come out of Europe and people over there really know how to appreciate art. I think it is extremely important to solidify that market and there is certainly a lot of stuff there for me! In fact, a lot of the emails I get come from folks in places like France and London.
10. Blackberry or iPhone
Jared: I say blackberry only because that’s what I have and am used to, but don’t get me wrong the iphone is insane. I feel like I can never get bored with that thing, the iphone really proves how far technology has come. I actually have an itouch so I guess I’m kind of cheating.
11. Oh, this can be funny… first thing you think about when I say Sweden?
Jared: I really don’t know why, but for some reason I think of chocolate and skiing even though Switzerland is the country that is really known for both of those.
12. Nassau County or Manhattan?
Jared: Man, I mean Nassau County is obviously a large part of who I am simply for the reason that that is where I was born and raised, but Manhattan was always that escape for me since it is so close to home. There is so much to do there and it is such a great outlet for musicians trying to make a name for themselves in the industry.
13. 80’s or 90’s?
Jared: Since I was born in ’88 I can’t say I am much of an 80′s baby, but because I grew up with older siblings I love a lot of 80′s culture. In fact I always felt like I was more of ’60′s, but man the 90′s were really such an amazing decade in my opinion. The music, the TV shows and movies, the feeling I get from the 90′s is really unique and I don’t think it will ever be captured for me again.
14. A Tribe Called Quest or The Beatles?
Jared: Wow! What a dope pairing, but I would have to go with The Beatles, they have been one of the most important influences on me ever since I started listening to music. Please don’t get it twisted though, Tribe is the shit.
15. McDonalds or Burger King?
Jared: McDonald’s fries, Burger King’s burgers.
16. Sing or Produce?
Jared: Both.
17. So are you working with Timbaland or was the “famous video clip” just a one off??
Jared: I mean the video of Timb and I was really just showing people that he digs what I do. He is one of the greatest producers of all time and for him to show me love was an honor. Also, Timb and my exec producer Jimmy Douglass worked together for 15 years, so I think you can definitely expect to hear some stuff from Timb and I at some point down the road.
18. Sweet, but hey Jared what’s your favorite song off the Radio In My Head Mixtape?
Jared: That’s a tough one just because I have a bunch of favorites, but if I had to choose one, I would say Frozen. Still to this day whenever I play that song, it sounds completely fresh to me, like I did it last night.
19. I have gotten to know that director Rik Cordero has played a big part in that Mixtape, how’s working with him been?
Jared: Man Rik is such an intelligent dude. Being able to work with him and having him on my team has been such a huge blessing for me. The dude is a genius in my opinion and other than my manager Matt Graham was really the first person to have the foresight to believe in my project.
20. Cool, it’s time to sum things up… I’m just curious, when did you know that music was going to be a major part of your life?
Jared: I knew music was going to be a major part of my life ever since I could remember. Music in my mind is way more than listening to, or making tunes, it is something that I believe is embedded in people’s souls and lives inside people like an embedded rhythm that can’t be shut off.
21. Great… we at 21 now so I’m just going to ask you if you have any shouts to your fans?
Jared: Oh most definitely! I just wanna shout out anyone and everyone who digs what I do and can connect with me when they listen to my music! All the fans and people who have reached out to me on twitter, facebook, myspace etc. They are the ones who are helping build my career with me, and I couldn’t in a million years do it without them.
Also, shout out to my big bro/manager Matt Graham, Rik Cordero, Jimmy Douglass, Illfactor, Illmind, DJ, Polow Da Don, Jimmy Iovine, Manny Smith and everyone at Interscope who is helping me make this dream possible. Thank you Le’Andre & JD! And the whole Purpl Blog team! See you all in 2010!
